The Global People’s Summit (GPS) on Food Systems is a Global South-led counter-summit to the United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) and its corporate agenda. The three-day main event of the Global People's Summit on Food Systems culminates all efforts and activities held since early this year to expose the neoliberal leverage in the UNFSS and to amplify the voices of the hungry and marginalized for food systems that work for us, for our people, and for our planet.

End the global corporate food empire!,” the three-day counter-summit is the culmination of activities held since early this year to expose and oppose the control of big corporations over food and agriculture the corporate capture of the UN, as exemplified by the key roles given to Bill Gates and other capitalist-controlled institutions in shaping the UN FSS agenda and outcomes.

In #SiegeTheSummit counter-mobilizations from July 2 to 29, the voices and demands of marginalized rural peoples from the Global South—landless farmers, agricultural workers, indigenous peoples, fisherfolk, rural women, youth, rural people living in occupied areas, and sanctioned peoples—were highlighted. More than 100 organizations at the local, national, regional and global levels organized or participated in various consultations, workshops, webinars and other online fora, and street mobilizations.

Con motivo del Día Mundial del Medio Ambiente, el 5 de junio, los movimientos populares y las organizaciones de la sociedad civil de todo el mundo lanzaron hoy la Cumbre Mundial de los Pueblos (GPS, por su sigla en inglés) sobre sistemas alimentarios, una contracumbre a la Cumbre de sistemas alimentarios de Naciones Unidas (UNFSS, por su sigla en inglés). Los organizadores de la GPS se encuentran entre los cientos de Organizaciones de la Sociedad Civil (OSC)y organizaciones de pueblos indígenas que anteriormente han expresado críticas a la UNFSS por sus vínculos con las grandes empresas y la exclusión de los pequeños productores rurales de alimentos.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, June 5, people’s movements and civil society organizations around the globe today launched the Global People’s Summit (GPS) on Food Systems, a counter-summit to the UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) slated to be held later this year. Organisers of the GPS are among the hundreds of CSOs and indigenous peoples organizations who have previously voiced criticisms of the UNFSS for its ties to big businesses and exclusion of small rural food producers.
